WeMachines vs Jira

Jira runs the backlogs of a huge share of the industry, and it earned that: you can model any process in it. That is also the problem. Somebody has to model it, and then somebody has to keep it modeled. WeMachines has nothing to configure, and the AI does the tracking, so the process is whatever the team actually does this week.

Configuration

Jira has projects, issue types, workflows, schemes, custom fields, permission schemes and a person whose job title is Jira admin. Every one of those is a decision someone made once and everyone else lives with. WeMachines has statuses with a type and a color, labels and topics. That is the whole setup. We opened it and started working, and we have not been back to a settings page since.

Tickets

We never write tickets ourselves. The AI reads the whole workspace, so it files a task from a thread, fills it in and moves it as the work progresses. When the Claude Code in a teammate's terminal picks a ticket up, it announces itself on the board over MCP and moves the ticket on when the code lands. There is no refinement meeting, because nothing needs refining, and no sprint cleanup, because finished tasks delete themselves after 14 days.

AI

Atlassian Intelligence and Rovo are real: summaries, better search, natural-language JQL, agents from the marketplace. They read Jira and Confluence and they help you look at the tracker. The AI in WeMachines reads the chat, the tasks, the docs, the polls, the huddle transcripts and the recent commits, and then it does the work. Assign it a ticket and a cloud agent works your repo and opens the pull request you review. Press ⌘O and brief it by voice. Save a prompt as a command and put it on a schedule. It fact-checks comments and flags decisions that clash with earlier ones, on its own.

AI models

Rovo runs on Atlassian's models. We run on 200+, plug and play, with zero data retention. When a better one comes out we test it inside our workflow the same day, and each agent on the team can run on a different one.

Stitching tools

A Jira team also runs Confluence, a chat tool, a call tool, a note taker and a stack of marketplace apps, each with its own admin. We spend zero time on that. Everything is one app, and when we need a tool the app does not have, we describe it and WeMachines builds it as an App, hosted, with its own database if it needs one. A routine runs on a cadence or on a webhook, so a deploy notification can wake the AI and post what changed into a channel.

Where Jira is ahead

Agile at depth. Story points, velocity, burndown, permission schemes, JQL, the audit trail and the marketplace are things an organization running dozens of teams on one governed process needs, and Jira has spent two decades on them. We do not try to match that, and we would not recommend WeMachines to a team whose job is administering that process.

Conclusion

Jira gives you a process to administer, and for some organizations that is exactly the job. WeMachines gives you a team that keeps its own board, because the agents doing the work are the ones moving the tickets.

Every new workspace starts on a 14-day trial of the Start-up plan, with 1,000 AI credits and no card; after that it is per seat, see pricing. Drop a Jira CSV on the Import page and every issue comes across word for word, its markup turned into formatting. We wrote down what a week without a tracker admin looks like in Building WeMachines on WeMachines.
