WeMachines vs Linear
Linear is the best issue tracker we have used, and we would say so in any room. It is fast, it is opinionated and it respects your keyboard. WeMachines disagrees with it on one thing: how much of a team's time should go into tickets at all. We think the answer is almost none, and we built the workspace around that.
Tickets
Linear made writing and grooming issues pleasant. We made it unnecessary. The AI in WeMachines reads the whole workspace, so it writes the ticket from the thread, sets the status and moves it as the work progresses. Something changes in chat? The ticket changes too. We very rarely visit the board, and when we do it is already right. Finished tasks delete themselves after 14 days, so the board never turns into the backlog graveyard every tracker becomes.
The room around the tracker
Linear tracks the work. The conversation that produces it happens in a chat tool, the spec in a docs tool, the call somewhere else, and Linear's AI sees the issues. In WeMachines the chat, the tasks, the docs, the polls, the huddle transcripts and the recent commits are one place. Every channel is public and there are no DMs, so an agent reads everything and nobody briefs it. Mention the AI in a thread and it answers with the whole company in context. Press ⌘O and ask it by voice.
Agents
Linear lets you delegate an issue to an agent from the vendors it integrates with, and that is the right direction. WeMachines goes further because the agent lives in the same room as the work. Assign a task to the AI and a cloud agent clones the repo, works on its own branch and opens the pull request you review. On the Mac app the same task can run on your own Claude Code, locally, on your own plan.
The agents you already run in your terminal join too. One line in the repo root puts Claude Code, Cursor or Codex on the same board over MCP, free on every plan. When one starts a ticket, your name in the sidebar picks up a live coding mark, the card gets a badge and the task moves itself into progress. An agent picking up a ticket is told when a teammate's agent is already on it. Our agents also read the instructions the team wrote and propose new ones as pull requests, so the team gets better at working with them without anyone maintaining a prompt library.
AI models
Linear's AI is Linear's. Ours is whatever is best this month: 200+ models, plug and play, with zero data retention. When a new one ships we test it inside our workflow the same day, and each agent on the team can run on a different one.
Stitching tools
A Linear team still runs a chat tool, a docs tool, a call tool, a note taker and a bot for each. We spend zero time on that. Everything is one app, and when we need something the app does not have, we describe it and WeMachines builds it as an App, hosted, with its own database if it needs one. Routines run on a cadence or on a webhook and post the result into a channel.
Where Linear is ahead
On tracking itself. Cycles, roadmaps, sub-issues, triage and the keyboard-first flow are the reference everyone else copies, and an organization that runs many teams on strict cycles will find Linear's ceiling higher than ours. We are not trying to match it. We are trying to make you need less of it.
Side by side
| WeMachines | Linear | |
|---|---|---|
| Core idea | One workspace for a software team and its agents | Issue tracker for software teams |
| Tickets | Written and moved by the AI, gone 14 days after done | Written and moved by people, fast |
| Chat, docs and calls | Native, one context for the AI | Other tools |
| Ships code | Cloud agent opens the pull request, or your own Claude Code locally | Delegates an issue to an integrated agent |
| Your own agents | Claude Code, Cursor or Codex join over MCP, live on the board | Integrations |
| Models | 200+, per agent, zero data retention | Linear's |
| Custom tools | Apps built and hosted on request, routines on webhooks | API and integrations |
| Setup | Opinionated, works out of the box | Opinionated, quick to start |
Conclusion
If tracking is the job, take Linear. If you would rather stop doing the tracking, take WeMachines. Linear made the ticket fast. We made the ticket somebody else's job, and that somebody is an agent with the whole workspace in context.
Every new workspace starts on a 14-day trial of the Start-up plan, with 1,000 AI credits and no card; after that it is per seat, see pricing. Drop the Linear CSV on the Import page and every issue comes across word for word, with its status, priority, labels, project and assignee. We wrote down what a week looks like without tickets in Building WeMachines on WeMachines.
